Virtual Sweat Date: Blog Anniversary, Michelob ULTRA Video Shoot, Friendsgiving

Thanksgiving is this week. Lol wut? Back with a late Virtual Sweat Date post. Let’s catch up on life.

If we were on a Virtual Sweat Date, I’d tell you…

It just occurred to me that it’s my blog’s anniversary. I started Deep Fried Fit 4 years ago around Thanksgiving. If you don’t know my story, I was a few years out of college working at a job that paid the bills and offered great benefits and perks, but wasn’t fulfilling. Honestly, I really hated it. I majored in journalism and somehow ended up crunching numbers. blech.

I needed an outlet and decided to create a blog that combined my two loves: food and fitness. So, I started the blog to sharpen my writing skills again and get familiar with the blog platform WordPress. Then somehow Deep Fried Fit turned into a creative outlet, that turned into a passion project, then a side hustle, and now a full time gig that allows me to live my best life. 4 years and counting!! Happy birthday to Deep Fried Fit!

Just came back from an amazing trip to New York with Michelob ULTRA. They flew me out for a video shoot and I can’t wait to see the final footage. Felt super cool to see a whole production crew, the incredible attention to detail, and the massive amount of effort to create a seemingly simple 30-45 second video. I was in Brooklyn/Williamsburg and got to check out a part of the city I never really ventured to. My favorite moment is taking in the breathtaking view of NYC skyline from Westlight, an incredible rooftop bar and restaurant inside William Vale. Y’all know I love a good solo trip and shared a blog talking about solo travel and why you should do it here. What’s a city you’d love to check out alone?

I had a blast the Perot Museum Annual Gala a few weeks ago. The event was SO well done. The theme was Intrigue, a Night at the Museum. Think Sherlock Holmes-esque complete with illusions and a myriad of curious activities and demonstrations sprinkled throughout the 5 floors of the museum. I adored the vintage decor and all the yummy bites provided by Wolfgang Puck catering and all the libations and boozey cocktails one could ask for. Plus, any chance to get dolled up and I’m there! One of my favorite moments was dancing like a music video star in the fashion light tunnel complete with a wind machine and getting my fortune read through lipstick imprints. Super cool. I’ve drawn some amazing event inspiration and I’m dreaming of the day I can host something that intricate and thoughtful. Next years gala will be on November 10, so save the date. It’s an event you don’t want to miss.

I’m looking forward to Friendsgiving this year. Growing up, I never had a traditional Thanksgiving with turkey and taters. So in college, all my friends that had similar situations or were transplants, would all get together and host a party. Fond memories, lots of food and of course, football! Speaking of football, I played my first pick up in foreverrrr. It felt amazing to get out there. I also shared a football workout you can do on your own if you’re looking to change it up.

I’m incredible thankful. I’m thankful that I’m healthy and am able to chase my dreams. That I have an awesome support system of friends and family that are cheering me on. It hasn’t been an easy road and all of their encouragement has given me the strength and motivation to keep going. Looking back on a challenging, yet amazing year. I can’t believe this is my life some days and I don’t take it for granted. And, I’m also thankful for wine.

I can’t wait to work on a few campaigns with Mockingbird Station, Misfit and Grub Hub soon. Just when I thought I’d be taking it easy, my cup stays full and I am so grateful for that. As for next year, I’m pretty pumped about the silent night runs that’ll be taking the running community by storm. I did a test group at the most recent silent disco event and it was a HIT. I cannot wait to get a larger run group together. Be excited! So many great things in the pipeline.

What you most grateful for and what are you looking forward to next year? Would love to hear about any new goals or aspirations. Leave them in the comments! Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday week.

  2. Yay!! Congrats on your 4 years and sounds like you have a ton of great stuff coming up! Your football game reminded me of my friends and I when we were growing up we planned a Thanksgiving football game each year during the day before Thanksgiving at a different park around Dallas. It was a ton of fun! I need to start that up again ha!
