First Taste at Wabi House on Greenville

When it comes to Dallas ramen restaurants, I’d all but given up. The ramen craze was exciting and hopeful at first, but mostly disappointing as new restaurants opened with the promise of the best noodle soups.  At this point, I was pretty much over ramen and the search for the best. I was willing to settle for decent. I was so glad to try Wabi House for the first time and being so close to my house, I know I’ll be back for more.

I’m no food snob or ramen connoisseur. I judge a place based on how likely I am to come back and the crave potential. Wabi House definitely made the list. After a long day of shooting photos for work, my fellow foodie friends and I went to Wabi House for a late lunch. Starved, I was happy get some food in my belly.

Started with the pork croquettes on squid ink paste. I think croquette-anything is always a win. Yummy, flavorful and cheap! I think this appetizer was $5 (lunch menu prices vary from dinner).

Next, I ordered the Takoyaki, a fried ball with chunks of octopus and a popular street food. I typically prefer a crunchier takoyaki since the center is usually gooey. I’m so glad it wasn’t doused in bonito flakes.

Next up, the star of the day: Spicy miso ramen. It comes with minced pork and a poached egg.  I added the chashu pork on top for $3. I was pleasantly surprised with savory flavor of the creamy broth. Happily slurped away and if my friends weren’t there, it wouldn’t been an extremely messy lunch. Ha! The heat is barely noticeable at first until you get that kick at the end of each gulp in the back of the throat. It’s definitely a heavy meal, so make sure you schedule a nap right after for that sodium overload. It’s also perfect for colder days.

Even after two appetizers and a bowl of ramen, I still had room for more. This tapioca pudding was divine! It had a coconut flavor to it with red bean ice cream, candied walnuts, and fresh berries. I was in heaven. It wasn’t overly sweet and light enough as a dessert that I couldn’t had a second serving. Still dreaming about it.

My first experience was great. I even went back a second time and enjoyed it just as much.  What’s also great are the lunch prices. A typical bowl goes for $12 bucks, but for lunch it’s $8 during the week only. Take advantage folks!
