Dare to Bare August Challenge Recap

My Dare to Bare journey continues and if you caught my last update on the movement, my August challenge was intended to push the limits of my comfort zone even more and find different ways of being active. That in itself is a challenge considering I workout everywhere, amiright? So I thought to myself, where haven’t I been recently? I realized with Dallas summers, I haven’t been outside for a workout in ages. I personally hate sweating outdoors and I reserve any kind of trail running for fall and winter. I’m a seasonal runner. Haha.

Here’s a recap of what I accomplished in August:

For a really fun SIX:02 event, I partnered with Sweat Dallas to host an outdoor workout, inviting anyone up to the challenge to join me. Despite it being warm and humid, I made had a killer cardio intense workout with some fabulous ladies. It wasn’t too bad and I’d definitely do it again. I loved that this workout pushed several of us out of our comfort zones. The work circuit training or interval training is already an intimidating word. It was great to see that “aha!” moment we got when we realized we did it!

After a short photoshoot for Smoothie King, I decided to run a 5K on Katy Trail. It was 10am, starting to get hot and I knew I’d regret not clocking in a miles. Plus, I was already dressed in workout clothes to begin with. I surprised myself by maintaining my pace and even noticed an increase in my speed (thanks to all the spin classes!). Makes training for an upcoming run so much easier!

Ever get the case of FOMO? I do. I missed a really awesome water yoga event at the AT&T Performing Arts Center a month ago and decided to stop by and strike my own pose. This was also a really fun project I did with DART in creating a short Dallas tour where I incorporated fitness, food, and Dallas all in one trip. You can find out more about my tour here. I was also really proud I made myself dare to bare a little skin too.

Last but not least, if you’ve been following fitness journey, you may have learned that I founded a new fitness community called Dallas Fitness Ambassadors. It’s a fun and supportive community for fitness bloggers and a resource for any Dallasite looking for a good sweat. Hosting events is still new to me, definitely out of my comfort zone. It’s always nerve-wrecking to plan, but the payoff is definitely worth it. It was amazing to meet so many like-minded influencers and an honor to workout with all of them.

Overall, I think August was a lot of fun and incorporating the challenge helped me think outside the box. There was also a second part of the challenge I don’t think I did that well. I challenged myself to disconnect from my phone and work every day. That was near impossible. My only consolation was being able to use my morning drive to work to disconnect from my phone and even the noise of the radio. It’s a minor change, but starting off the day with some silence is way better than the stress that comes with the overload of emails and texts. Baby steps right?

So I know I am a bit late in announcing my September challenge. I pretty much had to hit the ground running, but that’s not to say I haven’t been pushing the limits in my own fitness journey. It’s been an experience learning to become more comfortable in my own body. For September, I’ve been taking more notice of my eating habits and with some help, intend to make changes that will matter and ultimately make me feel more comfortable in my own skin. Abs are made in the kitchen right? Up until now, I’ve been logging my eating habits and making small changes and I can’t wait to see what progress I can make. Follow me on Instagram to see me  where my journey leads me.
